Our Work in Nepal

Two active programme areas, one shared commitment to human dignity

Unity Movement is registered as a non-profit in Nepal. Our programmes are designed with and for Nepali communities — not imposed from outside. We work alongside local leaders, educators, and community members to create durable change.

Education programmes and community development

Access to quality education transforms opportunities for Nepali children and young people in underserved areas. Our education programmes focus on sustainable support — working with existing community structures to improve attendance, learning outcomes, and resources. Alongside education, we invest in the broader conditions that allow communities to thrive: infrastructure, livelihoods, and local leadership capacity.

School Access & Support Programmes
Supporting school attendance, materials, and learning conditions for children in communities with limited educational access.
Teacher & Educator Development
Training and mentoring for local teachers — strengthening the educational capacity that persists long after a programme ends.
Community Infrastructure & Livelihoods
Practical development investments — from water and sanitation to livelihood support — shaped by community needs and priorities.
Local Leadership Capacity
Building the organisational and leadership capacity of community groups so they can sustain and expand their own development work.

Glacier and climate disaster relief

Nepal's glaciers are receding at an accelerating rate. Communities living at altitude and downstream face increasing risks from glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, and unpredictable weather extremes. Unity Movement's disaster relief work responds to acute emergencies while also investing in the preparedness and resilience of communities most exposed to these risks.

Emergency Relief Response
Rapid deployment of relief support — food, shelter, and immediate assistance — in the immediate aftermath of glacial and climate disasters.
Community Preparedness
Working with at-risk communities to strengthen their capacity to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to glacial and climate hazards.
Recovery & Rehabilitation
Sustained post-disaster support — rebuilding livelihoods, restoring shelter, and supporting the psychological recovery of affected individuals and families.
Climate Advocacy & Monitoring
Contributing to evidence-based understanding of glacier risk in Nepal, and advocating for policy and support commensurate with the scale of the challenge.
